How My Writing Journey Really Started!

After having a story idea circling in my head for about six years, I finally decided to do something about it.

I started to pen it down.

Okay… that’s a lie.

I started to type it down on my laptop like a normal person living in the 21st century.

This brilliant life decision happened during COVID—otherwise known as that strange period of time when no one knew what day it was, sourdough bread became a personality trait, and every email notification caused mild emotional trauma.

Like many people, I had absolutely no idea if I was going to keep my job.

Every email notification made my stomach drop.

Ding.

Was that another “organizational update”?

Ding.

Was I about to be part of a “restructuring”?

And every time my phone rang, I stared at it like it was a ticking time bomb.

Is this my manager? Is this the call? Should I answer… or move to another country and start a new life under a different name?

You know. Normal pandemic thoughts.

So to keep myself from spiraling into a stress-induced spiral of email refreshing and snack eating, I decided to keep busy.

I cooked.

I cleaned.

I cleaned an already clean house.

I reorganized things that didn’t need reorganizing.

And somewhere between wiping down the same kitchen counter for the fifth time and pretending my pantry needed a new “system,” I finally opened my laptop and started writing the story that had been living in my head for six years.

And once I started… I couldn’t stop.

The characters started talking.

Scenes started forming.

Drama started happening.

And here’s the part that might make you laugh.

Would you believe me if I told you I had already cast the entire trilogy in my head?

That’s right.

Not only did I have the story planned out, but I had also decided which actors would play the characters if Hollywood ever came calling. You know… just in case Netflix needed me.

Totally normal writer behavior.

So while the world outside felt uncertain and chaotic, I spent my evenings building a small fictional universe on my laptop—one chapter at a time.

Looking back now, what started as a way to distract myself from pandemic stress slowly turned into something much bigger.

A story.

A trilogy.

And a journey I never expected to begin with one very simple decision:

“Maybe I should finally write this thing.”

That's all!
